Homemade Fruit Gummies

Everyone enjoys fruit! These sweet, juicy, and frequently colorful morsels can be enjoyed in a multitude of ways. And while everyone enjoys fruit, something about gummy bears seems to make them the most popular fruit snack.

Fruit gummies are snacks that can be had at any time of day. Some gummies are created using gelatin, a protein derived from animal skin, bones, and other animal byproducts; however, fruit gummies can be made at home using fresh fruits and other components.

We are all aware that fruits are essential for good health. They contain numerous vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, including Vitamin C and Vitamin A, among others. Now, you can also produce delectable gummies using a variety of fruits. Next time you have a sweet tooth, make these instead. They will make you feel better, plus they are incredibly tasty.

Is Gelatin Vegan?

No, gelatin is not vegan. Since gelatin is derived from animal collagen, this dish is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. Agar-agar and carrageenan are two vegan-friendly alternatives to gelatin, however, I have not tested them in this recipe, so your results may vary.

Which Fruits Prevent the Gummy from Setting?

You can use a variety of fruits in this recipe, but pineapple, kiwi, and papaya should not be used since they contain an enzyme that inhibits them from setting entirely.

Which Fruits can be Used to Make Gummies?

Consequently, there are numerous fruit possibilities available for this recipe. Apples, blueberries, strawberries, mango, grapes, peaches, and oranges are among the various fruits that might be used to try this fruit gummy recipe. You can also include blended vegetables alongside the fruit to boost the smoothie’s nutrient content.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of peeled and chopped fresh fruit
  • 2-3 tbsp apple juice
  • 2-4 tablespoons honey or syrup
  • 3 tbsp gelatin

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Begin by washing and peeling the fruit. Remove the fruit’s peel and dice it into small pieces.
  • In a food processor, combine the fruit and apple juice until perfectly smooth
  • If the fruit puree needs additional sweetness, add honey (or maple syrup). Blend again.

  • Place 3 tablespoons of gelatin on top of the fruit puree in a small pot. Whisk until the gelatin has disappeared.
  • Turn the heat to medium and warm the fruit puree until it begins to simmer around the edges. Stir frequently to prevent burning. You do not want the fruit to boiling, but you do want it to begin to simmer (this may take 2-4 minutes depending on your stove).
  • Pour the fruit puree into the silicone mold and refrigerate for at least two hours, but preferably overnight. Remove the fruit jelly from the mold and refrigerate it in an airtight container for up to three days.

NOTES

Before beginning this dish, ensure that you have a food processor or blender on hand.

You may also like to use a silicone mold so that each gummy may be consumed separately. Alternatively, you may use a loaf pan or glass container and slice the fruit mixture into individual gummies.
