HEALING HERBAL GUMMIES

These gummies combine gut-friendly gelatin with the health-improving properties of herbs for a double dose of goodness. Gelatin maintains joints and connective tissue, nourishes skin, hair, nails, and teeth, and helps keep the lining of your gut healthy. Even greater sleep has been linked to gelatin’s glycine!

Pick your gelatin carefully. Look for unflavored, grass-fed gelatin. The sole component listed on the packet should be this. The nutritional potency of overly processed, white, powdery gelatin derived from intensively farmed animals will be lower.

Several herbal mixtures include:

  • Rose and chamomile are calming to the stomach and the psyche.
  • Passionflower and lavender can reduce stress and foster tranquility.
  • Lemon verbena and mandarin peel can soothe the stomach and the psyche.
  • Antioxidant and purifying properties of hibiscus with lime peel

A different flavor can be added by changing the recipe’s honey proportions. Its strong flavor complements earthy herbs like chamomile and valerian. Choose less potent honey for herbs with a delicate or mild flavor.

INGREDIENTS

  • 75 ml of room-temperature water
  • 500 ml of boiling water
  • Four teaspoons of grass-fed gelatin
  • 2 tbsp. of raw honey
  • 5 to 6 herb tea bags or 1/4 to 1/3 cup of dried herbs

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Put herbs or herbal tea bags in a heat-resistant container. 500 mL of boiling water should be added. Set aside for 20 minutes with a cover on.
  • After 15 minutes, add 75mL of room temperature water to a heat-resistant jug, then stir in the gelatin. This enables the gelatin to “bloom” and soften. If it becomes a little bit thick, don’t worry.
  • Strain the herbal infusion into the jug containing the gelatin after 20 minutes. Don’t whisk too vigorously or you’ll get too many bubbles; just whisk until the gelatin dissolves in the warm infusion.
  • Add honey and blend while whisking.
  • Pour the mixture into silicone molds; I use molds for cake pops and small muffins. A small square or rectangular glass or ceramic baking dish that has been lightly oiled with some coconut macadamia oil can be used if you have no other purpose for it.
  • For two to three hours, refrigerate.
  • Unmold the gummies.
  • Cut the gummy bears into squares around the size of an ice cube if you used a baking dish.
  • For one to two weeks, keep it in the refrigerator in an airtight container.

NOTE: You can use 2 to 3 drops of liquid stevia in place of the honey.
